Which electric fatbike has the best value for money for entrepreneurs?

Electric fatbikes Electric fatbikes with belt drive offer entrepreneurs the best value for money due to lower maintenance costs, tax advantages and durability. For business use, models with a range of at least 80 kilometers, powerful motor (at least 250W) and robust tires are ideal. The combination of lower operating costs, reliability and subsidy and tax opportunities make electric fatbikes a smart investment for entrepreneurs looking for efficient urban logistics.

What makes electric fatbikes interesting for entrepreneurs?

Electric fatbikes offer entrepreneurs an efficient and cost-effective transportation solution for urban areas. The wide tires provide stability and comfort. The electric assistance makes transporting goods effortless.

"Our CityX is perfect for downtown business owners," says Laurens of STOER Bikes. "Stable, reliable and you get everywhere. Customers use it for deliveries, service visits and just business trips. It really is a game-changer."

One of the biggest advantages is the belt drive which more and more fatbikes have. Unlike traditional chain drives, a belt requires virtually no maintenance. It lasts much longer (often 20,000+ km) and operates almost silently.

For business owners, this means less downtime, lower maintenance costs and more professional appearance. Our UrbanX with belt drive is a perfect example of this.

Sustainability benefits are significant:

  • Electric fatbikes do not emit CO2
  • Fit perfectly into green corporate image
  • Give access to environmental zones where cars are banned

This last point is becoming increasingly important. More Dutch cities are introducing stricter rules for motorized traffic in inner cities.

Practical advantages:

  • Parking in front of customers' doors
  • Avoiding traffic jams
  • Reach places inaccessible to cars
  • Time savings and increased reliability to customers

What tax benefits apply to business owners when purchasing an electric fatbike?

As an entrepreneur, you can take advantage of various tax benefits when purchasing an electric fatbike. This makes investing in our CityX or UrbanX much more attractive.

"Many business owners don't know how many tax breaks they can get," says Laurens. "With KIA, MIA and VAT deductions, you sometimes get as much as 60% of your investment back. That suddenly makes our fatbikes very affordable."

Small business investment allowance (KIA): Main benefit where you can deduct up to 28% of investment amount from profit. This depends on total investment amount in a year.

Environmental Investment Allowance (MIA): Electric fatbike is eligible for MIA. This allows you to deduct up to 36% of investment amount on top of usual investment deduction. This applies to electric transport bikes on MIA environmental list.

Accelerated depreciation possible: Electric fatbike often fully depreciate within three years. Fiscally beneficial if you make a profit and fall in high tax rate.

For freelancers and sole proprietors: Possibility of private use. If fatbike is used both for business and private use, you can allocate part of costs to business. Important condition: keep proper records of business versus private use.

All these arrangements together make actual cost of our UrbanX or CityX significantly lower than purchase price suggests.

How do subsidies for electric fatbikes vary by country?

In the Netherlands, subsidies for electric fatbikes vary by municipality and region. Various subsidy schemes are available for our fatbikes.

"Subsidies really do make a difference," says Laurens. "A customer in Amsterdam received €2,000 in subsidies for his CityX. That made the investment much easier."

Dutch cities: Local subsidies are available in most major cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht. These can be as much as €2,000 for business users. Subsidies are often linked to sustainability goals.

Belgium regionally regulated:

  • Flanders: entrepreneurs up to €1,500 to purchase electric transport bike

What are the most economical leasing options for electric fatbikes?

For business owners, several attractive leasing options are available for our electric fatbikes. This makes investing in CityX or UrbanX more accessible.

"Leasing is becoming increasingly popular with our corporate customers," says Laurens. "Especially for startups that don't want to make a big investment right away. With leasing, you can take advantage of our UrbanX right away without cash flow problems."

Operating lease: Often the most economical because all costs are included in one fixed monthly fee. Depreciation, maintenance, insurance included. Provides budget certainty and full lease cost is deductible as a business expense.

Financial lease: Good option if you want to own fatbike eventually. You pay off monthly amount and become owner after maturity. VAT can be reclaimed directly and bike as an asset on the balance sheet.

Bicycle leasing plans: Increasingly popular are bicycle leasing plans specifically for belt-drive electric fatbikes. These offer all-in packages with maintenance, insurance and roadside assistance. Maintenance costs are lower for our belt drive UrbanX, making this option especially attractive.

Flexible contracts: Many providers have contracts with terms of 24, 36 or 48 months. The longer the term, the lower the monthly payment. Leasing options without a large down payment are available for start-ups.

Note when comparing: Terms around usage and wear and tear. Some contracts have mileage restrictions or specific conditions of use. Also important: what happens in case of theft or damage.

"We have been riding a Stoer bicycle for a year now without any problems. Even the battery capacity has not deteriorated. And when you then see other brands where after a year the rust marks are visible I am glad I spent a little more and now have a bike made entirely of aluminum. And this one stays really neat!!!"
"The bike is perfect for people with long legs. Sitting comfort is perfect for long distances."
"Purchased a STOER Bike last year after trying several fatbikes. STOER is by far the best! Still very much enjoy my purchase. In addition, the service is top notch!"

How do you calculate the ROI of an electric fatbike for your business?

To calculate Return on Investment of an electric fatbike, systematically map all costs and savings. This also applies to investment in our CityX or UrbanX.

"ROI calculation shows why our fatbikes are so interesting," says Laurens. "Customers usually recoup their UrbanX within 2 years by saving on car costs. After that, it's pure profit."

Step 1: Total investment cost Start with purchase price minus any subsidies and tax breaks such as KIA and MIA.

Step 2: Calculate annual savings Compare fuel cost of car or van with electricity cost of fatbike. Full charge costs €0.25-€0.40 and gives range 50-80 km. The same distance by van costs €8-€12 in fuel.

Additional savings:

  • Parking fees (average €4-€8 per day city centers)
  • Reduced maintenance costs (especially for belt drive models such as UrbanX)
  • Lower insurance premiums
  • Avoided costs of environmental zones or congestion charges

Time saved in money: How much faster can you reach customers by avoiding traffic jams? Parking directly in front of the door? Saving 15 minutes per delivery at hourly rate €50 yields €12.50 per trip.

ROI formula: ROI = (Total annual savings / Net investment) × 100%

Most entrepreneurs see ROI of 30-50% per year. This means electric fatbike pays for itself within 2-3 years. Lifetime is 5-7 years or longer.
