CargoX Family vs. Business: Which Version Is Right for You?

Are you torn between the CargoX Family and the CargoX Business? Then take a close look at what you usually put in the cargo area every day. If you usually have kids in the front seat, the Family model is the obvious choice. If you mainly carry tools, packages, or catering supplies, the Business model is a better fit for your needs.

Both models are based on the same CargoX. The confirmed base model is therefore the same. The standard equipment included with each model varies by configuration. Therefore, please check with a dealer. In this article, we only list specifications that have been confirmed for the CargoX. This way, you can choose based on your daily use rather than on a label.

What the Family and the Business Have in Common

The CargoX is STOER Bikes' flagship model. The Family and Business versions are two variants of the same bike. The specifications below apply to the CargoX itself.

What Each Performance Aims to Achieve

Think of the Family and the Business as two ways to use the same vehicle. One version is designed for passengers, the other for cargo.

CargoX Family: Kids and Family Rides

The Family app is designed for urban families looking for an alternative to a (second) car. For family use, these confirmed CargoX features are the most relevant:

  • A dual-belt system that allows you to secure two children in the car seat.
  • A rain cover or box cover to keep your passengers dry.
  • A double standard that keeps the bike stationary while children get on and off.
  • A non-slip bottom, so that backpacks and groceries stay in place.

Two kids, groceries, and a full school bag? It all fits in the 100-by-70-cm cargo area. Want to know more about what makes a cargo bike suitable for a family? Read What Makes a Cargo Bike Ideal for Families or How to Safely Transport Two Children in a Cargo Bike.

CargoX Business: Cargo and Work Trips

The Business app is designed for business owners in the delivery, installation, facility maintenance, and hospitality industries. For those trips, other features are more important:

  • Maximum load capacity of 100 kg in the bed.
  • The non-slip floor, which keeps cargo in place while driving.
  • The double stand, which keeps the bike stable during loading and unloading.
  • A range of up to 80 km, for multiple trips in a day. The actual range you achieve depends on the load, route, and weather.

Cargo bikes are widely used for business purposes in practice. At the Dutch provider DOCKR, they are They are used primarily by package and meal delivery riders, but they are also gaining ground among mechanics and wine merchants. This example focuses on the customers of a single provider, but it illustrates just how varied business trips can be. Not sure if a cargo bike is right for your company? Here's how to choose based on your daily usage

Answer these questions for a typical week. So don't focus on that one exceptional trip.

  1. Who or what ends up in jail most often? If it's mostly children, choose the Family plan. If it's mostly cargo, choose the Business plan.
  2. How much does your average load weigh? Add it all up: kids, bags, tools, or crates. Make sure you stay within the 100 kg weight limit for the trailer.
  3. How often do you load and unload? Many short stops indicate business use. Regular trips to school, sports activities, and the grocery store indicate family use.
  4. How many kilometers do you drive each day? If you drive a lot, keep your load and the weather in mind. These factors affect how close you get to 80 km.
  5. How would you like to pay? The CargoX is available for lease through New Mobility Lease for individuals, self-employed professionals, and businesses. Check out the lease application if you want to compare that to buying.

If your answer to the first question is a mix—for example, taking care of the kids in the morning and handling orders during the day—then read the next section first.

Can you use the Family plan for business purposes, or vice versa?

In principle, yes. The cargo area, payload capacity, and handling are the same for both models. So you can also transport packages with a Family, as long as you stay under 100 kg and secure the load properly.

Conversely, this requires more attention. If you plan to transport children in a Business trim level, first check whether seat belts and appropriate seating are available or can be installed. Never just assume this is the case. Check with the dealer, as standard equipment may vary by trim level.

Transporting people and goods also requires something different from you as a driver. The national government states that, when it comes to heavy electric cargo bikes, many skills require driver training, and that Such training focuses on how the driver uses the vehicle: for passenger transport or for freight transport. That post is about a specific group of heavy vehicles, so it doesn't apply directly to the CargoX. However, the principle is useful: practice with the type of cargo you'll actually be transporting.

Do you use your bike for both? If so, choose the model that best suits your most common ride. Then customize the bike for the occasional ride, for example, with accessories that fit your ride.

When a test drive of both models makes sense

A test ride is especially helpful if you're really unsure or if you plan to use the bike for both family and work. The ANWB recommends taking it for a test ride if you're unsure: Ask at the bike shop if you can take an extended test ride so you can see for yourself which cargo bike suits you best.

Make the most of that ride:

  • Test with a realistic load. Bring whatever you usually carry, or let the kids ride along. You can find tips in Here's how to realistically test a cargo bike with a load.
  • Practice loading and unloading. Place the bike on the double kickstand and see how easy it is to get on or load it.
  • Ask about the layout. For each model, show which seat belts, covers, and cargo options come standard and what additional options are available.
  • Drive your own kind of route. Think of busy intersections, narrow streets, or a hill. That's when you'll notice how braking and shifting feel with weight in the truck.
