"I see it every day with our customers," Thomas explains. "Delivery drivers who get stuck in traffic, double park because there is no room, and then get fined too. It's pure frustration."
Indeed, traditional last-mile delivery in city centers suffers from a series of intractable problems that seriously hamper efficiency and sustainability. First, traffic congestion in inner cities creates unpredictable delivery times and frustration for both delivery drivers and customers.
In addition, increasingly strict environmental zones are a growing challenge for businesses with conventional vehicles. For example, in many Dutch cities, including Amsterdam and Utrecht, diesel vehicles are banned or heavily taxed. Consequently, this limits access to key delivery areas and also increases operational costs.
However, Thomas notes, "The beauty of electric cargo bikes is that they can just go anywhere. No hassle with environmental zones, no parking stress. You just drive on to your customer."
Moreover, parking problems cause additional delays and often fines. In addition, rising fuel costs make traditional transportation increasingly expensive, while inefficient delivery times ultimately lead to lower customer satisfaction.
