"Five years ago you would get weird looks with a cargo bike," Thomas recalls. "Now you see them everywhere. It's just become the new normal for families who want to get around smartly."

"People are shocked by the price at first, but then I calculate it for them," Thomas explains. "Road tax, insurance, fuel, maintenance, parking - that's quickly thousands of euros a year. A cargo bike might cost you 50 euros a year in electricity."

With a car, you pay road tax, insurance, fuel, maintenance, repairs and parking fees. With an electric cargo bike, the ongoing costs are minimal: some electricity, annual maintenance and possibly insurance. The price difference can amount to thousands of euros per year, especially if you use the cargo bike to replace a second car.

"It used to be that a cargo bike was really only for very sporty parents," says Thomas. "Now anyone can ride it. Grandparents picking up their grandchildren, mothers who have just given birth - in fact, the bike makes it accessible to everyone."

"This is really a gamechanger for families," Thomas stresses. "No more greasy chain getting your kid's school bag dirty, no maintenance, and so quiet! The kids can just talk quietly in the front without that screaming engine noise."

Belt drive is virtually maintenance free: you never need to lubricate or tension. A belt lasts much longer than a traditional bicycle chain and stays completely clean.

"The great thing is that you don't even realize you're exercising," laughs Thomas. "You just take your kids to school and in the meantime you get your daily dose of exercise. Much more convenient than going to the gym."
