"When you work at STOER Bikes, you naturally encounter many e-bike stories," says Laurens. "Customers who are excited about their new fatbike, but also people who are worried about their battery not lasting as long."
Laurens works at STOER Bikes and has learned a lot about battery use through his work with customers. "What's striking is that some customers come back after a few years with questions about their battery, while others continue to ride happily for years," he says. "Through all those conversations, you start to see patterns."
Laurens also has personal experience with electric bikes. "My first battery only lasted three years because I wasn't smart with it," he admits. "Now that I know more, my current battery has lasted much longer."
"Through my work at STOER and my own experiences, I see what works and what doesn't," Laurens explains. "That's why I wanted to write this down - to show that you yourself have a lot of influence on how long your battery lasts. It's about smart habits that really make a difference."
The battery of an electric fatbike lasts 3 to 5 years on average, depending on various factors such as intensity of use and maintenance. With a modern lithium-ion battery, you can typically expect 500 to 800 full charge cycles before the capacity decreases noticeably. In practice, this means you can cover between 20,000 and 40,000 kilometers before replacement becomes necessary.
